Our most colourful (and healthy!) department – fruit, vegetables and salads, and everything in between. Quality fruit and vegetables are the foundation on which Macknade Fine Foods has been built. Macknade started life as a farm in 1847 and whilst we no longer farm the land, we still put our heart and soul into providing quality, fresh and personally selected fruit and vegetables. We select our produce from around the globe, as well as from our Kentish doorstep, to ensure that we always maintain a fascinating, fresh and vibrant range at any time of the year.

No visit to Macknade is complete without paying a visit to our deli counter. The staff are full of character, and are incredibly knowledgeable about all the charcuterie and cheeses we stock.
Our delicatessen counter is an impressive sight, housing amongst the largest range of cheese and charcuterie available anywhere in the UK. We source these from an extensive variety of suppliers, and in many cases, direct from the producers themselves. The delicatessen also houses all manner of olives and antipasti, pies, Scotch eggs and quiches – perfect for food on the go or a treat for supper. With over 150 cheeses on offer, there is one to suit every taste. Our range includes award-winning local cheeses, classic British farmhouse cheeses, and well-known and unusual varieties from Europe and afar. We also provide the highest quality charcuterie, which like our cheeses, we cut and prepare to order.

At Macknade Fine Foods, you can fill your basket with the essentials you need plus the ingredients you want, but can never find. Our buying team work tirelessly to stock our shelves with quality, sought after lines that you might struggle to find elsewhere and gourmet items for the quirkiest of recipes. If you’re after a single estate bottled, extra virgin olive oil supplied directly from the producer in Italy, we can meet your needs. At the same time we recognise the desire and comfort of the everyday items, and old favourites like Yorkshire tea bags sit alongside our specially blended teas. Our grocery department has an extensive baking section filled with a wide variety of flours; a range of speciality artisan pasta, rice and grains; row upon row of jams, chutneys, pickles and other condiments; a wide selection of confectionary and a ‘free from’ section to meet any dietary need. We also stock world food ingredients of all influences, oils, vinegars, dressings, teas, coffees and snacks – the list goes on and on.You will find almost anything for your larder and importantly, if there is anything we don’t currently stock, we are always happy to look into sourcing it… We enjoy the challenge!

Our promise is to provide the best tasting meat, delivering the best eating experience we can. We believe that meat is not a commodity for thoughtless everyday eating, but that it should be special, something to be enjoyed & truly savoured. We know to achieve this the meat has to come from well cared for animals and thoughtful farming & husbandry. Working closely with farmers, producers and game dealers, we carefully select a range of premium fresh meat for our butchery counter. We are the only certified butcher of pasture-fed meat in East Kent and work with several farms in the South-East that are certified by the Pasture Fed Livestock Association – an organisation who champion British farmers dedicated to only feeding their animals on a natural diet of grasses, wildflowers & herbs.

What’s there not to love about bread and cakes?
The smell of freshly baked bread is one of the most comforting experiences around and a regular greeting as you enter Macknade.
We work with a number of high quality bakers to provide in excess of 20 different types of loaf on a daily basis. Wild Bread bakes superb sourdough right here on site leavened by naturally occurring wild yeasts and using the best British flours available. The Artisan Bakery have worked with us for a number of years and deliver their handmade breads from London every week for us to bake and serve fresh. Their ethos is based around simple and traditional techniques, resulting in wonderful breads with a superb flavour, perfect crumb and rich crust. We love their bread so much we use it for the sandwiches in our café!

No meal is complete without the right (alcoholic or non alcoholic!) drink to go with it. Being at the heart of a county so inextricably linked with the brewing industry, it stands to reason that our selection of bottled Kentish beers and ales is vast. We stock everything from global brands like Shepherd Neame to the Mad Cat Brewery – a small micro-brewery just five minutes from Macknade. We sell a wide range of ciders that stem from the great orchards of Kent. Dry, sparkling, strong or fruity – you’re bound to find something you like. Complementing our ciders and beers are an increasing number of Kentish wines, spirits and liqueurs. A particular favourite is Anno Gin, produced using key Kentish botanicals such as samphire, hops, elderflower and sloes. This is delicious on ice or with Bramley & Gage Indian tonic water. However, it’s not all about alcohol. You will also find varieties of Kentish apple juice on our shelves, with an emphasis on their provenance and individual characteristics, as well as blended juices, syrups and cordials from across the county. Going further afield, lemonade from France, Aranciata from Sicily and Wild Elderflower Bubbly from Devon are amongst the wide selection of drinks we stock. We also think that freshly squeezed orange juice cannot be beaten and every morning we use our juicer to give you the very best. Quality and provenance are at the heart of the drinks department. Whether you’re opting for beer or selecting an apple juice it is truly about enjoyment, not simply quenching your thirst!
